Witnessing the performances of the 2024 Summer Olympians has been thrilling, moving, and awe-inspiring. One athlete the GoMacro® team is always excited to cheer on is Carissa Moore – a professional surfer, Olympic Gold Medalist, and five-time WSL world champion. Carissa has been a part of the GoMacro family for three years and is a true example of what it means to live The GoMacro Way™.

GoMacro is incredibly proud of the partnership built with Carissa over the past years and took the opportunity to kick off their newest initiative, GoMacro Stories, with the surfer. The project honors the GoMacro community, telling the stories of individuals (including team members, consumers, and partners) who have made a special impact on GoMacro’s journey over the last 20 years. Carissa was a natural fit for the project, so the Social Team traveled to meet her in Hawaii to catch up and discuss her surfing career, philosophy, and how she was feeling heading into the upcoming games in Tahiti.

After learning to surf as a child at Waikiki Beach with her family, Carissa discovered the joy and freedom of riding the waves and spending time in the ocean. As the years passed, she realized it was more than just a sport to her; it was a way to connect with herself, the environment, and her community. Many waves, medals, and titles later, Carissa faces waves up to 30 ft on a global stage. Despite the daunting trial, Carissa is committed to channeling her fears into something positive -- “I think it’s unrealistic to say you’re going to overcome your fears, but to face them and to keep showing up for yourself even though you’re afraid ... and I truly believe that on the other side of that wall is where the magic happens for all of us” she says.

While Carissa’s talent, skills, and outlook are incredibly inspiring, we’re also proud to partner with an athlete who shares our heart for Giving Back. In 2018, she founded the organization Moore Aloha to help girls and women navigate the waves of mental health and wellness with sport, mentorship, and the Aloha spirit. As a women-founded, women-run organization, we admire Carissa’s commitment to growing a community of strong, confident, and compassionate women. “Top priorities for us both are to give back to our communities, to live a positive life, and to empower the next generation of fearless leaders,” says Carissa.

Looking ahead to the next phase of life, she says she’s motivated by doing what brings her joy and sharing that joy with others, from traveling to working with Moore Aloha and redefining her relationship with surfing. It’s an honor to watch and support her as she continues to follow her dreams and show up as her most authentic self every day.
